On June 6, 1944, the U.S. American Allied forces, comprised entirely of U.S. Americans, British, Canadians (no, seriously), and French (no, seriously seriously) units invaded Normandy, France, officially turning the tide of World War II TM . Something which the French remain ingrateful for to this day. The invasion, which was the largest amphibious deployment in history, was called Operation Overland at the time, but is now known as D-Day . Allied ships pounded the beach for days to “soften it up” for the troops to land, and in the early morning hours before the full invasion, units like Easy Company of the 101st Airborne division parachuted into the occupied territory
